At my university here in Ireland, there is a Dance Society. This week were auditions for the competition teams (aka intervarsities) and tonight was hip hop…. Now, I have never really done hip hop before, but hey, I thought why not give it a shot? If nothing else I figured I will just spend the evening dancing (something which I greatly miss!!)
We learned the dance and performed in small groups. All of which I am used to due to all my years auditioning for color guard. The dance was fun, but I always feel like I have issues loosening up when it comes to this style of dance. I feel too tight, a stock white girl.
But anyways, the auditions went well, but at the end of the night, one of the instructors leading the class/auditions just asked me, “You’ve done ballet, haven’t you?“
So I don’t know if that is a good sign or not for hip hop auditions… but either way at least my training shows! Thank you, to all my years of color guard/dancing and my incredible instructors!
(Lyrical and Jazz auditions later this week… Much more my style!)
Edit: I did not make the hip hop team, but did make lyrical.
